![]() Looking OutThe looking out segment will make us aware of global mission needs. Patterned after the good Samaritan, we will be addressing physical needs in order that the love of God may be shown to others in our world.
We will be working with Samaritan’s Purse, (the same people who do the shoe boxes at Christmas), on benevolent mission projects. Our children were the first to do this during VBS. The offering of our children at the Spring Campus this year will provide 40 dairy animals to families who have little. These families will likely be in West Africa which means that the animals will likely be goats. What does this mean you might ask? It means a lot if you haven’t been able to provide milk for your children. This gives missionaries a great opportunity to share the gospel because they are able to meet the physical needs of people as well. Our projects will be across the board and covering the world: blankets for people in Asia and former Soviet block countries, laying hens and other farm animals all over the world, and then some specific water projects such as providing freshwater wells for villages, water purification systems for communities, and home water filters for poverty stricken cities. The projects can even go as far as providing transportation for missionaries, building medical facilities and churches, all in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Suggested gifts for this Sunday School year: Teach a Child to Read and Write Bibles and Christian Literature Supply a Community with Clean Water Change a Life Through Vocational Training Help Save the Lives of Mothers and Babies Help Build a Playground for Hurting Children Give a Family the Gift of Good Health

People do not simply need to know that we are here, but that we care about them. The plan for this segment is to identify two or three major subdivisions in our area and flood it with attention such as mailers, prayer walking, and other actions as appropriate and culminate it with a subdivision block party geared to minister to families and connect them with the ministries of the church. This will allow the church to be the church in that community. Too often, we want people to feel wanted by coming to our church, as we engage in the “Reaching Out” phase of the campaign we will take the love that God has so freely given us to the people.
Sending OutThis is just what it says. We want to send our people on mission. We have been in contact with the International Mission Board and with our local Tryon Evergreen Association and it looks as though we will be able to have an adult mission trip in the late spring, early summer of 2010. Even now as you read this some of your spirits are being quickened in preparation for this kingdom work. This fall we are sending three leaders to Great Britain on a preview trip with the association to meet with the churches and organizations we will be working with, should the Lord allow. |
